Accessibility & Supports

Feathered Fundamentals workshops are held in a small, informal indoor venue in South Alton, Nova Scotia. The building was not designed as a fully accessible facility, but I will make reasonable adjustments wherever the space and workshop format allow.

If there is anything that would help you participate more comfortably, you can include it on your registration form or contact me before registering. I’ll follow up with you directly so we can talk about what you need and what is possible in the space.

What I Can Usually Support:

Depending on what would be helpful, I can usually provide:
• Step free entry using the ramp at the side entrance.
• Seating adjustments.
• Additional breaks.
• A support person attending with you.
• Space for a service dog.
• A little extra time to get settled or move through the building.

If something would make the workshop easier for you to take part in, it is worth mentioning. It does not need to feel like a formal accommodation request.

Support Persons & Service Dogs

You are welcome to bring a support person at no additional cost if you need one to attend or participate comfortably. They may take part in the day and have refreshments with the group, but they will not receive their own workshop guidebook unless they are also registered as an attendee.

Service dogs are welcome in the workshop space. Please let me know in advance if you will be bringing one so I can arrange the room with enough space for both of you.

Limitations of the Venue

The venue is small and has not been fully modified for accessibility. The main entrance has stairs, although step free entry is available through a ramp at the side entrance.

There may be requests that the building or workshop format cannot accommodate. If that is the case, I will be honest about the limitation so you have the information you need before deciding whether to attend.

How To Request Support

You can describe what you need in the accessibility section of the registration form. I review those responses personally and will contact you before the workshop to work through the details.

Nothing needs to be formally written or perfectly explained. Just tell me what would help. If you are unsure whether something counts as an accessibility need, mention it anyway. It is much easier to plan ahead than discover on the day that a small adjustment would have made a big difference.

Even though I had done a lot of researching and had already been keeping chickens a good while I learned so much! It was also beyond beneficial to have genuine local information on climate considerations, predators, suppliers, vets, community, etc. What you receive both in knowledge and thus confidence, the guidebook and materials, and also time spent with others doing the same thing, it really is an investment that gives you a lot more in return!
