Accessibility & Supports

Feathered Fundamentals workshops are held in a small, informal indoor venue in South Alton, Nova Scotia. The space is not fully purpose-built for accessibility, but I do my best to make it comfortable and workable for everyone attending. If there’s anything that would help you take part more easily, please include it in your registration form. I’ll follow up with you directly so we can talk through what’s possible and make a plan together before the workshop. Better yet, feel free to contact me before registration with any questions you may have.

What I Can Support:

Within the space and format of the workshop, I can usually support things like:
• Step-free entry via the side ramp.
• Extra time for moving between activities or breaks.
• Seating adjustments to help you stay comfortable.
• Permission to move around, stand, or step out as needed.
• Bringing a support person or service dog with you (see below).

If something helps you take part more comfortably, it’s worth mentioning. Even if it’s something simple.

Support Persons & Service Dogs

You’re welcome to bring a support person with you at no extra cost if that helps you attend or participate. Support persons are welcome in the space and may take part in the day alongside you, including refreshments and snacks. The only difference is that they won’t receive a take-home workshop guidebook, as those are provided per registered attendee.

Service dogs are also welcome in the workshop space. If you’ll be attending with a service dog, please let me know in advance so I can make sure there’s enough space set up comfortably for you both.

What I May Not Be Able To Accommodate:

The venue is a small, private indoor space and not a fully modified accessibility facility. While I will always do my best to make adjustments where possible, there may be limitations based on the building itself or the nature of the workshop activities.
If something can’t be accommodated, I’ll be upfront about that during our follow-up conversation so you can make an informed decision before the workshop date.

How To Request Support

Just note any accessibility needs in your registration form. I review those personally, and I’ll reach out to you before the workshop so we can talk through details together. If you would prefer, you can also just send me an email to ask any questions you may have and/or discuss accommodations.

Nothing needs to be formal or perfectly worded, just enough so I understand what would help.

Final Note:

If you’re unsure whether something “counts” as an accessibility need, include it anyway. It’s easier to adjust ahead of time than try to solve something on the day.

Even though I had done a lot of researching and had already been keeping chickens a good while I learned so much! It was also beyond beneficial to have genuine local information on climate considerations, predators, suppliers, vets, community, etc. What you receive both in knowledge and thus confidence, the guidebook and materials, and also time spent with others doing the same thing, it really is an investment that gives you a lot more in return!
